Cell Quantity All laptop batteries are made of battery cells. All three of our manufacturers come in 6 cell and 12 cell version. You may be asking, “What are battery cells?” Well, imagine if you were to open your laptop’s battery. Inside it, you would see that your battery pack is made up of batteries that look similar to AA size batteries, these are the battery cells. These cells are what power your laptop. Typically, a battery pack has 6 cells inside of it. This is a standard size battery pack and will fit flush with your laptop. 12 cell laptop batteries are batteries with twelve individual cells inside the battery. Since they can’t fit an additional six battery cells into the standard size battery case, they use larger casing. A 12 cell battery will be larger; doubling the size of the 6 cell battery. There will also be a slight increased weight, but there are some advantages. First, a 12 cell battery will raise your laptop a bit, as if you were typing on a keyboard, making it easier on your wrists while typing. Also being raised will increase air flow under your laptop, preventing a rise in your laptop’s temperature. Lastly, 12 cell batteries will offer double the runtime than a standard 6 cell battery. Cell Quality The cells inside a battery can be made by different manufacturers. Therefore, cell performance is always equal. AtBatt batteries are made up of cost effective, standard capacity, BAK cells. These are the same batteries cells used by most of our competitors. Which means it is the most affordable. Original (OEM) HP batteries are made with standard capacity, name brand manufacturer cells like LG, Sony, Samsung, and Sanyo. HP doesn’t use generic cells in their batteries. The reason is performance. Name Brand cells typically offer a better performance and service life than generic battery cells. But these cells are more expensive than generic cells, which mean their batteries are more expensive. Amstron batteries, like OEM HP, use name brand cells like LG, Sanyo and Samsung. And in some cases, like the LHP-80, Amstron makes their battery with higher capacity name brand cells, giving their battery an overall higher capacity. For example, the LHP-80 is rated at 5200mAh which has 15% more capacity than the AtBatt’s ATHP80-06 and HP’s LHP-80OEM both at 4400mAh. Amstron batteries offer OEM Quality Batteries without the name OEM price tag. Battery Capacity Simply put, the capacity of the battery, mAh or Whr, measures how long a battery will last on a single charge. The higher the mAh/Whr, the longer a battery will last on a single charge. For example, let’s say your original battery was 4400mAh (48Whr) and lasted 2hrs on a charge. Buying a battery with an equal capacity would give you the same amount of runtime. Buying the Amstron LHP-80, 5200mAh battery would give you about 15% more runtime, and an 8800mAh battery would give you double the runtime.
