Want to get the most out of your laptop battery? Your AC adapter is used to recharge your battery but what happens in time between charging cycles? What can be done to maximize your battery life? Here are some tricks to help take charge (excuse the pun) of your laptop battery.

  • When you receive your new battery it will come uncharged. Most rechargeable batteries should be broken in and laptop batteries are no exception. Charge your battery initially for a minimum of 12 to 14 hours and drain it completely by simply unplugging it from the wall and leaving it on. It’s also good to get into the habit of consistently doing this once a week. This can sometimes be referred as “conditioning” your battery.

  • Keep the battery and charger’s contact clean. Rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab is one of the easiest ways to do this.

  • For PC users, open the power management section under the control panel. Regulate how much power is being used and in turn being saved.

  • Do you always keep your CD-ROM drive empty when you are not using it? In fact, it is beneficial to keep a disc in it. Your laptop will occasionally search the drive. Leaving a disc in the CD-ROM drive enables your laptop to find a disc. And finding a disc requires less power than searching for one.
