Thieves Steal Car Batteries for Scrap Lead

Avon and Somerset Police reported on Monday that there had been 13 instances of large numbers of sealed lead acid batteries being stolen from across the force area.

Some incidents have come from recycling centers and garages where batteries are replaced. In one of these cases, the total amount of stolen batteries weighed more than a ton.

Other reports indicate that there have been a number of car batteries stolen from random cars around the city. Although this has not turned into a major impact, the theft rate for car batteries is expected to rise along with the price of lead.

With old car batteries being worth five dollars each, they prove to be a valuable target for thieves all over the world.
