Cell Quantity in Battery Packs, Meaningless?
Cell Quantity in Battery Packs, Meaningless?

When you are out looking for a brand new battery for your laptop, there are certain things you need to take into account. With that said, the number of cells in the battery pack should not be one of them. The compatibility between a laptop and a battery pack is not determined by the amount of cells the battery pack has inside. In addition, the amount of cells is insignificant when comparing the capacity of battery packs, since the cells within them could vary in capacity pack to pack. Refer to this article if you would like to examine the
dissection of a battery pack
. Your first priority should be to find a compatible battery for your specific laptop. You can easily do this using our
battery finder tool
.
If you have problems acquiring the brand and model number of your laptop, refer to this guide:
How to Find Your Laptop's Brand and Model Number
You will need this information to use the battery finder tool. The next step would be deciding the capacity you want the battery to have. Under normal circumstances, an extended battery pack with a higher capacity will usually cost and weigh more in exchange for a longer runtime. You will also notice that extended batteries have more cells. Due to the added amount of cells, the battery pack will most likely protrude out from the back in order to fit the extra cells. This is completely normal.
The positive side of having a non-extended battery is less weight and lower cost. Non-extended battery packs usually fit flush with the laptop as well, but not all the time.
