How To Boost Charge A Motorcycle Battery
Most motorcycle battery chargers will automatically boost charge the battery if the voltage has dropped too low. Basically this means the charger will use a high current for a shorter duration to bring the battery back to a normal voltage so that regular float charging can be done. Float charging is done with a lower current to maintain the battery at normal charge level.
Boost charging is necessary when a battery has been discharged too much. How much is too much? In this article we examine several different motorcycle batteries and explore ways to recover them through boost charging. In some cases a battery just can’t be recovered.
Here’s in interesting point. If you have a 12v motorcycle battery that needs to be boost charged, but the voltage has dropped too low, the charger will no longer recognize it as a 12v battery and simply won’t be able to boost charge it! In some cases the method we show you could save your battery’s life!
