Where o’ where would the world be without coffee? Coffee is used by millions, if not billions of people everyday to help get things moving. And with an ever-increasing awareness of the need for products that can qualify as ‘sustainable’, the properties that make coffee such a desirable beverage are being used in other applications.

One of the latest uses for coffee that isn’t hot, delicious, and found in a cup comes in the form of coffee-powered batteries. At a recent event called Venice Design Week, Nespresso Austria put on a display of clocks and a radio that were being powered by coffee batteries-

Mischer’ Traxler used about 700 Nespresso capsules (the equivalent of a one year Nespresso supply for one person) to create power for 16 clocks – one aluminum color for each Grand Cru. The designers hope that just knowing what is supplying the power to the clocks should inspire people to return their used capsules to Nespresso for recycling. -Inventorspot.com

Coffee gets you and I going each day, so why not use it to get your electronics going as well?
