How to Make Your Very Own Battery-Powered Bicycle

[ 0 ] September 8, 2009 |

panasonic_electric_bicycle_500While hybrid and all-electric cars and trucks seem to be the vehicles getting all the love from the media these days, another method of transportation is quietly experiencing it’s own form of modern transformation.

More and more we’re seeing people turn to battery-powered bicycles to help get them from point A to point B and beyond. And while electric bikes are available for purchase, there’s nothing quite like making your own.

In the video below, a gentleman converts his standard bicycle into an electric bicycle. To make the transformation, he wires several nanophosphate lithium ion 36 volt battery packs in series for 72 volts. The battery packs power a 408 Crystalyte motor which sends him on his way down the street. The conversion doesn’t look to be that difficult so go ahead and give it a try.

Happy trails!
