Battery-Charging Boomerang: Novel Concept or Wishful Thinking?

While it’s name might seem a little suspect, the concept behind the Boo battery-charging boomerang could very well be seen as brilliant.

Technology Designers Ji-youn Kim, Jeon Hwanju, and Yang Soonyoun have come up with a new way to charge batteries, adding a bit of entertainment to an otherwise uneventful task. Their battery-charging boomerang concept functions by converting the rotary motion of the boomerang into energy. The Boo holds up to three AAA batteries and is covered in silicon to prevent any unwanted and adverse effects upon impact to it’s cargo within. All that’s required is some back and forth tossing of the boomerang and eventually you’ll have your batteries recharged and ready to go.

Now, just how many tosses it takes to recharge the batteries is a whole other question. Chances are your arm will tire long before you ever get the batteries fully charged. Still, you have to give the designers brownie points for a novel concept, right?
