Palm Pre Extended Batteries Going Big: Is the Extra Battery Life Worth the Bulk?

Like most smartphones, the recently released Palm Pre has a lot to love about it. Pre’s features and capabilities put it up amongst leading smartphones such as the iPhone and Blackberry Storm. However, just as battery life issues have plagued it’s competitors, the Pre has received less than stellar reviews of it’s 1150mAh lithium-ion battery.

Unlike the iPhone, the Palm Pre comes with a removable battery; allowing owners of the Pre the option of picking up larger batteries for their device. But what happens when these extended batteries give the phone the appearance that it’s 9 months pregnant and ready to burst at any moment? Is the extra juice provided by these grandiose batteries worth the bulk they add to the Pre?

Following the release of Seidio’s 1350mAh extended battery for the Palm Pre, Amzer released extended batteries for the Pre with ratings at 1400mAh and 2800mAh, as well as one at 3800mAh that offers up more than three times the capacity of the Pre’s standard 1150mAh power supply. While the extra power may sound nice, the extra girth may prove to offset the benefits brought about by these extended batteries.

When it boils right down to it, it’s all about personal preference. Do you want to keep your Pre looking trim and sleek, even if it means finding yourself scraping for battery life everyday? Or, is putting up with bulky batteries worth the extra juice provided by the extended batteries brought about by Seidio and Amzer?
