Deltran Battery Tender

What type of batteries can be charged with a Deltran Battery Tender?
All Deltran chargers can charge Conventional Flooded and VRLA AGM sealed lead acid batteries. Certain chargers can also charge Gel batteries (Please check the descriptions on the chargers).

How large a battery can a Deltran Battery Tender charge?
Typically, any sized lead acid battery can be charged by any Deltran Battery Tender charger since it is microprocessor controlled, but as a rule of thumb for small sized batteries, make sure your charger is rated no more than 1/3 of the battery's capacity. For example, if your battery is a 5Ah capacity battery, you should use a charger that is no more than 1.7A (5Ah / 3 = 1.67). For larger batteries (30Ah or more), the same 1/3 rule applies, but you should use a charger that is at least 10% of the capacity of the battery, otherwise it may take a while to charge the battery.

How fast can a Deltran Battery Tender charge a battery?
How fast you can charge a battery depends on 2 main factors: the capacity of the battery and the charging Amps of the charger. To find the time, just divide the capacity of the battery by the charge rating of the charger. For example, if you are charging a 12V 18Ah battery with a 022-0157-1 which is a 5A charger, you can charge the 18Ah battery in about 4 hours (18Ah / 5A = 3.6 hours).

Selecting a Deltran Battery Charger for you.
Selecting a charger is simple. You just need to know what voltage, capacity, and type of battery you have. The battery has all that information on the label. For example, if you have a 6 Volt, 7Ah AGM SLA battery, you could select a 021-0127 or a 021-0144. Both are 6V chargers and can charge AGM SLA batteries. If you have a 12V 7Ah battery, you can select a 021-0123, 021-0128 or 022-0150-DL-WH since they are 12V chargers.

Something else to consider before selecting a battery charger.
A wide variety of choices are available. Just remember that when you evaluate the cost of a Deltran charger, it’s not just the charger that you are paying for. It’s the reputation of the company, the unmatched warranty, and the service before and after the sale you are getting. Neither chargers nor batteries are inexpensive. Our experience over the last decade with both individual consumers and large corporate customers has shown us that batteries can last much longer with a good charger. It is not uncommon for individual consumers to double or in some cases even triple their batteries useful life with Deltran Battery Tender Chargers.

Lead Acid Battery

What is a Lead Acid Battery?
A Lead Acid Battery is basically a battery that uses lead plates or grids and a sulfuric acid electrolyte.

What does VRLA AGM Battery mean? What does SLA Battery mean?
A VRLA AGM Battery is short for Valve Regulated Lead Acid Absorbed Glass Mat Battery. SLA Battery is short for Sealed Lead Acid Battery. VRLA are commonly known as SLA since the regulated valves are sealed in place unlike in a conventional battery, where there is no valve, but a removable cap. AGM means that the acid is soaked or absorbed by a fiber/glass material so there is no free liquid in the battery. This also means they are not spillable. Basically, VRLA AGM SLA Batteries are lead acid batteries that do not leak, that you do not have to fill or maintain and can be mounted in any position.

What does Conventional Lead Acid Battery mean?
A Conventional Lead Acid Battery is a battery that has liquid acid inside the battery and that has removable vent caps where you have to add water to maintain the battery. These are also known as flooded batteries.

How deep and how often can a lead acid battery be discharged?
General purpose lead acid batteries are usually designed to be discharged no more than 50% of its capacity with a cycle life of 200-500 cycles (how many times you can discharge and charge). Deep cycle batteries like EV (electric vehicle) batteries can be discharged over 75% of its capacity and have 500-1000 cycles. Long life batteries can have a cycle life of over 1000-2000 cycles.
